TRON Energy Rental 10 FAQ

This is a beginner-friendly guide that solves most of the problems you encounter when renting TRON TRX energy

1. Must the address be activated before buying energy?

Answer: Every address on the TRON network must be activated before it can rent energy. The activation condition is to transfer TRX to this address, and activation will consume 1 TRX. So if your address is not activated, you must first transfer TRX to activate it. This is TRON's rule.

2. Why am I still charged fees after buying 65K energy?

Answer: This issue is also TRON's rule, which is whether the address you want to transfer to has USDT balance. If the target address has USDT balance, then you only need 65K energy. Of course, if there is none, then you need 131K energy.

Energy Requirements Summary:
  • If the target address has USDT assets, you need to spend 3 TRX to buy one energy, saving 14-3=11 TRX
  • If the target address has no USDT assets, you need to spend 6 TRX to buy two energy, saving 28-6=22 TRX

3. Is there a convenient way to know in advance how many energy to buy?

Answer: Here's a tip: first try to transfer with your wallet. If the wallet shows 13 TRX, it means the target address has U assets, so buying 1 energy is enough. If the wallet shows 28 TRX, then you need to buy 2 energy. This method works better with TRON's official wallet (TronLink) and is more reliable. Other third-party wallets may not be accurate.

Method: TRON Official Browser Query

It's recommended to directly query from the TRON official browser website https://tronscan.org/ to check if the current address has USDT assets.

Summary: If the target address you want to transfer to has USDT assets, you only need to buy 65K energy. Otherwise, you need to buy 131K energy.

4. Why does my wallet still show insufficient TRX after I purchased energy?

Answer: This is because you are using a non-official TRON wallet (TronLink). Before transferring, other wallets recently require the address to maintain a minimum TRX balance (especially Trust wallet). If the target has U, you need to maintain at least 13 TRX. If the target has no U, you need to maintain at least 28 TRX. For smooth transfers, it's recommended to always keep 30-50 TRX or more in your wallet address after buying energy.

5. Can I use energy when depositing USDT to exchanges using TRC20?

Answer: Yes, you can use energy.

However, when depositing to exchange addresses, you usually need to consume two energy. The reason is: after your USDT is transferred to the exchange's deposit address, that address will immediately consolidate the funds to the exchange's central wallet. This causes the deposit address to no longer hold USDT on the chain, thus requiring 28 TRX to be burned or consuming 2 energy.

Important Note: Therefore, to cover the two transaction fees that may occur during the entire deposit process to exchanges, it's recommended to prepare sufficient energy in advance to avoid the system defaulting to burning 28 TRX to pay fees.

Summary

By understanding these common issues, you can better use TRON energy rental services and avoid unnecessary fee expenses. Remember:

  • Addresses must be activated before renting energy
  • Determine the amount of energy to buy based on whether the target address has USDT balance
  • Use official tools to query address asset status
